Smart Lighting Control
Smart lighting control for Dubai homes and buildings.
Lighting is the system people use most. Fortue designs lighting control that makes a space easy to live in: smooth dimming, well-chosen scenes, clear keypads and outdoor lighting that runs itself.
Beyond on and off
Good lighting control is designed, not added.
In a modern villa or residence, a single room can have downlights, cove lighting, pendants, wall washers and feature lighting, each on separate circuits. Without control, that becomes a wall of switches. With control, it becomes a few scenes that set the right mood with one press.
Fortue works with the lighting or interior designer to group circuits into scenes, select compatible dimming drivers, place keypads where people expect them, and connect lighting to curtains, AC and security so the whole home responds together.
What it covers
Indoor scenes
Welcome, Dinner, Movie, Night and Cleaning scenes per room or for the whole home.
Dimming
Phase, 0–10V and DALI dimming matched to the drivers, for flicker-free results.
Facade & landscape
Astronomical timers, sunset scenes and holiday modes for exterior lighting.
Presence & daylight
Sensors for corridors, bathrooms, offices and car parks to save energy.
Lighting control guide
Five decisions that make or break a lighting control project.
1. Circuit grouping
Every circuit that should dim or be part of a scene needs its own feed back to the panel. Agree the grouping with the lighting designer before first fix.
2. Driver compatibility
Most problems with LED dimming are driver problems. The driver type (phase, 0–10V, DALI) must match the control system, and drivers should be specified, not left to the contractor.
3. Keypad strategy
Use engraved scene keypads at entrances and bedsides, and keep the number of buttons small. Most families use four to six scenes per room.
4. Exterior lighting
Facade, garden and pool lighting should switch on and off automatically with sunset and sunrise, with a simple manual override.
5. Integration
Lighting becomes more useful when it is linked to curtains, AC and security, for example an Away scene that turns off lights, closes curtains and sets the AC back. See villa automation and KNX automation.
Technologies
The right control layer for the project.
Wired systems are preferred for new builds; wireless options make retrofits possible without chasing walls.
- KNX switching and dimming actuators
- DALI and DALI-2 lighting control
- Zigbee and Matter devices for retrofits
- Keypads, touch panels and app control
- Voice control via common assistants
- Scene links to curtains, AC and security

Questions
Smart lighting in Dubai: questions
Can existing lights be made smart?
Usually yes. Wireless dimmers and relays (for example Zigbee) can be fitted behind existing switches or in the panel. Dimming quality depends on the existing LED drivers, which should be checked first.
What is DALI?
DALI is a digital lighting control standard that addresses each driver individually. It is common in commercial projects and premium residences where precise dimming and feedback are required.
Why does my LED lighting flicker when dimmed?
Flicker is usually caused by incompatible dimmers and drivers, or by a minimum load issue. Choosing the right dimming method and compatible drivers at design stage avoids it.
Can lighting work with my curtains and AC?
Yes. In an integrated system, a single scene can set lighting levels, move curtains and adjust the AC at the same time.
